It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Louise Dockens Smith, who left us on January 22, 2025, at the age of 82, to be with the Lord in Heaven. Barbara was born on May 13, 1942, in Los Angeles, CA, and graduated from high school in Spring Branch, TX. After the birth of her children, Barbara attended nursing school at Wharton County Junior College, where she earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse certification.
Barbara lived in Houston, TX, for most of her life until her retirement, at which point she moved to Tomball, TX. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Tomball.
Barbara was a loving daughter, wife, mother, Grammy, Mimi, and Mamacita. She was known for her offbeat sense of humor, her love of watching comedy, and her joy in watching her ballerina granddaughters perform in The Nutcracker. In her retirement, Barbara devoted much of her time to her children, grandchildren, family, and church.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Bobby Dockens; son, Clinton White; daughter-in-law, Paula White; son, Bart White; daughter-in-law, Karen White; grandchildren: Cameron White, Claire Randall, Sarah White, and Leah White; as well as many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otha and Mena Dockens, and the love of her life, her husband, Jerry Smith.
The family invites relatives and friends to join them in celebrating Barbara’s life on February 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home’s Chapel of Chimes, 2700 Crowley Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76134.
The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Barbara’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
