Bernard Gene Bowyer

Gene was born February 24, 1932 in Marie, West Virginia to Edna and Paul Bowyer. He graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, West Virginia in 1949. Shortly after graduation Gene enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Private, advancing through the enlisted ranks to the rank of Master Sergeant. Subsequently, Gene was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Over the years following, he traveled to a total of 25 countries. Gene served in a combat unit in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon along with a bronze star metal with a "V" denoting Valor in Combat. Gene was awarded various other metals and ribbons. Gene retired from the Marine Corps in July 1974 as a Captain.

While in the Marine Corps, Gene attained two years of college credits through the University of Virginia. Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, Gene worked at the Delaware Trust Company for over eleven years retiring as branch manager. At that point he moved to Burleson, Texas where he worked for Transamerica Real Estate Tax Service. Gene retired from Transamerica as the operations manager for the state of Texas after twelve years.

Gene was a committed member of Boulevard Baptist Church for over 20 years. Gene is survived by his wife JoAnn Echavarria Bowyer of Burleson, Texas and son Bernard Gene Bowyer Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, four stepchildren; Bobbie Del Bosque, Natalie Desormier, Silvester Del Bosque and Desiree Del Bosque all of Burleson, Texas, son-in-law Mark Roberts of Marietta, GA, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, three brothers Carroll, Norville, and Jack Bowyer and sister Patricia Bowyer Ballard, all of Roanoke, VA.

Service to be held at Boulevard Baptist Church on March 22nd, 2022 at 10:00 am with Rev. Terry William and Pastor Paul Cooper officiating. Burial to follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

in lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to the Boulevard Baptist Church, the Parkinson's Foundation or the American Heart Association.
