

Bernard Wayne Hewlett, 80, died Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Community Hospice in Burleson, Texas from head injuries sustained during a fall.
Funeral Service at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 11, at 12:00 noon.
Visitation at Laurel Land Funeral Home Tuesday evening, February 10 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Bernard was born on a farm in Grand River, Iowa on September 7, 1934 to Clifford and Doris Hewlett. He graduated from Grand River High School in 1953. On February 21, he married Wilma Munyon. He served in the US Army for four years. While stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, he performed the duties of a military policeman. After serving in the Army, he returned to Des Moines, Iowa where he worked as a printer at Better Homes and Garden Magazine. After attending technical school in Des Moines, he was hired at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas in January of 1969. He worked on instrumentation for the F-16 fighter planes and traveled to Israel to help with the maintenance of these planes. He worked at General Dynamics until his retirement in 1996. Bernard and his wife, Wilma, were members of Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas from 1969 until 1995. He served as a deacon and also managed the sound system. In 1995, Bernard's wife, Wilma, died from a heart attack. In 1996 he was introduced to Joyce Taggart and they were married on January 7, 1997. Bernard and Joyce enjoyed their retirement while living in Crowley, Texas. They have attended Hallmark Baptist Church since 2001. Bernard was always ready to help anyone in need, especially if it involved repairing anything mechanical. He completely rebuilt the motors for several automobiles, constructed a very large metal gazebo in his backyard, and loved tinkering with electronic devices.
Bernard was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma; his parents, Clifford and Doris Hewlett; his father and mother in-laws, Leland and Martha Munyon; and his brother, Robert Hewlett.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Joyce Taggart Hewlett of Crowley, Texas; sister, Rita Anderson and husband Quinten of Ellston, Iowa; brother, Donald Hewlett and wife Marjorie of Grand River, Iowa; daughter Karla Fouts and husband Terry of Grand Prairie, Texas; son, Mark Hewlett of Crowley, Texas; grandsons, Eric and Cameron Fouts of Grand Prairie, Texas; step-brother-in-law, Delbert Rose and wife Martha of Fort Worth, Texas; step-sister-in-law, Nelda Decker and husband Jerry of Haskell, Texas; step-daughter, Vicki Griffin and husband Donald of Fort Worth, Texas; step-daughter, Tammy Ray and husband Jim of Loveland, Colorado; step-daughter Sherry Cole and husband Jeff of Fort Worth, Texas; five nieces, six nephews, seven step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
