

Bert Wilson “Dub” Owens, 89, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at his home in Rendon. Service: Thursday, April 28 at 10:00 at Laurel Land Chapel of the Chimes. Interment will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: Wednesday, April 27, from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Bert was born June 17, 1926 in Keller to Bert Edward and Ruby Irene Fanning Owens. He attended Keller High School and after graduation worked as a produce buyer for Leonard Brothers Stores. He was drafted into the Army Air Corps in WWII and served in the Philippine Islands. After discharge from the service he returned home and married Josephine Ann Dickson on June 4, 1948, who he met at a softball game. They were married for 59 years before her passing in 2008. To this union were born three children, Louella Ann Owens and Charles Bert Owens who preceded him in death and Ella Louann Owens Rubel and husband Robert. Bert retired from the United States Postal Service in 1986 after 35 years of service. Bert was an avid domino player and sports fan. In 1956, he pitched a no-hit, no-run game sponsored by the Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. For many years, he was active as a coach in little league baseball and pee-wee football teams in the Forest Hill area. He watched every Texas Rangers and Mavericks game and was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys, win or lose. He enjoyed the country life of raising hay and Texas Longhorn cattle on his land. Bert was a faithful member of Retta Baptist Church. He was a member of the Keller Masonic Lodge #1084 for over 62 years. To know him was to love him. He never met a stranger, loved to laugh and enjoyed family gatherings. Survivors: brother, Tom Owens and wife Evelyn; sister-in-law, Maxine Cromer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, step grandchildren including Brian Rubel and wife Karen, Step great grandchildren including Ben Davis and wife Kristi, Kevin Rubel and wife Rachel, step great great grandchildren, Sierra Davis, Grace Davis and Ella Davis
