Life Reflections of Mrs. Bertha Jones
A Time to Be Born
Bertha was born on January 7, 1937, in Haskell, Texas, to Marvin Lewis Sr. and Hattie Johnson Lewis. She was raised in the Arlington area, where she attended local schools, and later graduated from I.M. Terrell High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Bertha dedicated more than 30 years of service to the medical field, working as a surgical technician and a physician assistant. She spent her final fourteen years as Supervisor of Central Supply at DFW Medical Center, where she later retired in 1996.
And a Time to Plant
At a young age Bertha gave her life to Christ at Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor D. B. Brown, and in 1966 she rededicated her life under the leadership of Pastor N. L. Robinson. Her commitment to her faith remained steadfast throughout her life. With more than seventy-two years of faithful membership, she served diligently in numerous capacities, including the choir, secretary, usher board, and bereavement committee.
Beyond the church walls, Bertha was a devoted servant leader in her community, whose tireless work on numerous community boards made her a pillar of strength in the Arlington and Grand Prairie areas, especially Dalworth. She demonstrated a heart for service through leadership and involvement, including serving as President of the Carter Oliver Seniors Club, serving as coordinator for the 1956 Class of I.M. Terrell program, and volunteering in several capacities for Water from the Rock and the Dress for Success Ministry. Her dedication to uplifting others left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her legacy of service, generosity, and giving back will forever be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
On December 31, 2025, after a courageous life’s journey, Bertha peacefully departed this life and entered eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Jones; her father, Marvin Lewis Sr.; her mother, Hattie Bernstine; her stepfather, Woodrow Bernstine; her brother, Marvin Lewis Jr.; and her daughter, Sharon Jones.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her devoted daughter, Cynthia Jones; three sons, Donald Jones, Vince Jones, and Rodney Williams; one granddaughter, LaKeythia Jones (Roderick); and one grandson, Ardraylon Williams (Roshelle). She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, LaDarrius Jones and Kaylon Lightfoot; four great-great-grandchildren; a beloved niece, Barbara Booker McNair; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; along with a host of other relatives and dear friends
