Bettie Maduzia

She was a long time resident of Fort Worth and Burleson, Texas. She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana and was married to Bernard Maduzia for 66 years at the time of his passing in 2016. She was an expert genealogist and spent years researching and documenting her family’s history beginning in France and migrating to South Louisiana in the 1700’s. Bettie traveled extensively with her late husband, an executive with Pier 1, who taught her how to kiss and whom she adored.

Above all, Bettie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was named “Mayer” by her eldest grandson in his toddler efforts to say “Grandmother,” which delighted her because “grand-mère” means grandmother in French. Bettie was a singular, one of a kind woman, and she was adored by all who knew her.

Bettie was preceded to Heaven by her parents, Albert Lee Gremillion and Mamie Rae Ludeau Gremillion; her siblings, Albert Lee Gremillion, Jr. and Cecilia Gremillion Cortez (Bee Bee); and her husband, Bernard Edward Maduzia.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Maduzia Niel and husband Bill Sudderth, Bernard Edward Maduzia, Jr. and fiancé Sharon Colligan, and Barry Eugene Maduzia and partner Lisa Perdue; grandchildren, Erik Niel and wife Amanda, Shannon Maduzia Sorenson and husband Brian, Lance Niel and wife Erin, Kristin Niel and partner Grey, and Lauren Maduzia Fitzgerald and husband Jack; as well as her great-grandchildren, Drew, Austin, and Eli Sorenson; Cade Niel, Evan Crochet and Scarlett Niel; and Lauren and Jack’s baby-girl-to-be.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Heritage Place in Burleson, who cared for her so well for so long; her private caregiver companions Agus Saldaña and Rachel Skiles; and St. Gabriel’s Hospice Center, Roger Scott, his staff, and their contracted nurses, Sabrina and Tammy, who aided her in a peaceful and dignified transition.
