Betty is survived by the love of her life and husband of 58 years, Eddie Martin, Son and daughter-in-law Eddy Dale and Julia Martin of Arlington, Grandson and his wife Robert Edward and Krystin Elsa Martin of McKinney, sister Ysleta and her husband Vernie Bradshaw of River Oaks, numerous relatives, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Henry Allen Buchanan.
Betty graduated from Polytechnic High School in the Class of 1953. She worked at First National Bank and A. Davis Clothing during her early life. She and Eddie were married in the house he bought for her on Chickasaw street in Fort Worth by Reverend Vanderpool, on December 9, 1955.
She was always up for anything Eddie came up with, whether bouncing across Eagle Mountain Lake in a rented 14-footer or pushing shingles up the ladder three at a time to keep him from having to climb so much while replacing the roof. Neither could imagine anyone else they would have wanted to walk thru life with. He said if he could put the names of every woman he had ever met on the wall and point first at the one who would make the best wife, and to the one who would be the best mother for his child, and then pick out the one who would be the best grandmother for his grandchild, every name would be hers. She loved her family and they always came first.
Her Grandson was the light of her life. She told him many stories when he was little, made from whole cloth and the hero of the stories was always a little boy named Robert. She would always include his friends in trips to the park or the zoo. And the love she gave to those children is reflected in their love and adoration they have for the woman they call "Granny."
The wake of her passage is filled with people she and Eddie helped along the way. When they were in a position to help and had the tools needed, they always said it cost them nothing to help and the people needed helping, so that is what they did.
