

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Betty Relph Crockett Samuel, 91, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015. Funeral: 10:00 am Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Hurst. Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: First United Methodist Church Hurst. Betty Samuel was born September 12, 1924 in Ellwood City, Pa., the daughter of Charles and Gladys Wood Relph. She graduated as valedictorian from Lincoln High School in 1942. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. In 1946 she married C. Clinton Crockett, Jr. and was an instructor in Accounting at William and Mary for two years during WWII. They moved to Fort Worth in 1948 where Clint had previously been stationed as a B-24 pilot. Betty was a homemaker and also taught private piano lessons for many years. Throughout this time she was an active member of the Fort Worth East Rotary Club. She retired in 1994 after 30 years as Executive Secretary. She became the first woman member in 1987 and first woman president in 1992. Betty was a Paul Harris Fellow. Betty was a former member of Meadowbrook United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for over 27 years. Several years following Clint's death in a plane crash, Betty married Darrell Samuel in Fort Worth. Betty was involved with many community organizations. She was a member and past president of the '62 Club and the Euterpean Music Clubs, past officer and director of the Fort Worth Woman's Club, a fifty year member of Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Chapter and Patroness of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity. Betty was an active member of The First United Methodist Church Hurst for several years after relocating to the Hurst area. She volunteered at nursing homes with musical programs for many years.
