Betty Lou Layne Walker passed peacefully from this life into the arms of her Lord on November 1, 2026. Betty was born May 10, 1925, in South Bend, Texas. She lived a long and meaningful life centered on faith, family, love, and service to others.
Betty was married to RC Walker for 69 wonderful years. Their marriage was a testament to lasting love and commitment. During World War II in 1943, while RC served in the United States Navy, Betty worked at a defense plant, doing her part to support the war effort.
Her faith was an important part of her life. Betty was a charter member of Bethany Christian Church, where she faithfully served her church and community for many years. She was actively involved in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and served as deaconess, historian and worship chairperson. She taught Sunday School for 23 years, sang in the church choir, and gave generously of her time and talents. She also sewed blankets for hospitals through church activities with Project Linus, always finding ways to care for and help others.
She found joy in the simple things in life. She loved crocheting and creating beautiful quilts for her family, putting love and care into every stitch. Each quilt was more than just something handmade; it was a special way of sharing her love and leaving her family with something to treasure for years to come. An avid reader, she could often be found with a good book, enjoying the escape that a story could bring. She also enjoyed working word searches and crossword puzzles, keeping her mind busy and finding pleasure in the little challenges along the way. In the later years of her life, she found a special joy in creating cross-stitch plaques featuring the name of Jesus. She lovingly made these keepsakes and gifted them to some of her favorite people, sharing a little piece of her faith with those she held dear. Each one was a heartfelt reminder of what was important to her and a lasting expression of her love.
Betty's life was marked by quiet dedication, a loving heart, and a deep commitment to her family, church, and community. Her years of service and the lives she touched will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, RC Walker, parents Robert and Alberta Layne, sister Lois Walker and husband Kyle, brothers RJ and wife Pat, Robert and wife Marcella, Jack and wife Jane.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Walker of Carrollton and David Walker and wife Jan of Fort Worth; granddaughter Shannon Rehbeger and husband Morgan of Lakeside, grandson Cregg Walker and Shelly Walker of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren Cassady, Camryn, Colton, Ryland, and Adelyn; brothers-in-law Victor Don Walker and wife Becky of Konawa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Virginia Biela of Fort Worth, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
