It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bettye Jean (Burrow) Carter, who entered her heavenly home on August 13, 2026, at the age of 100. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Bettye's loving presence, kindness, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Bettye was born on February 3, 1926, in De Leon, Texas, the first child of Ben and Ada Jewel (Wilderson) Burrow. From an early age, she devoted herself to caring for her family, helping look after her grandmother and three sisters while also assisting with work on the family farm.
Dedicated to helping others, Bettye attended nursing school through All Saints Hospital and began a lifelong career in healthcare. She faithfully served as a nurse for 37 years before retiring in 1989. The following year, she returned to work, spending six years caring for patients with Alzheimer's disease in a nursing home setting. Her compassion for others continued through 15 years of volunteer service at Huguley Hospital, where she worked in various departments.
Bettye accepted Christ as her Savior in 1954 and remained active in her church throughout her life. She especially loved cooking for family and friends and enjoyed hosting gatherings for the Carter family and members of South Hemphill Baptist Church. Her warm hospitality and servant's heart touched countless lives.
Bettye is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Carter of Fort Worth; her grandson, Jerry Lynn Dunn Jr. and his wife, Krystal, of Granbury; her granddaughter, Jennifer Dunn Moran and her husband, J.R., of Granbury; and her granddaughter, Kristen Burkart and her husband, Jeff. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Baileigh Meier and her husband, Jeff; Ethan Turnbow; Hannah Dunn; Evan Fields; Bradley Dunn; and one great-great-grandchild, Sophia.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin Carter; her son, Jerry Dunn Sr.; her parents, Ben and Ada Jewel Burrow; her sisters, Mary Newton, Faye Merritt, and Ruth Elliott; and her granddaughter, Rhonda Dunn.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bettye's life on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Hallmark Church, located at 4201 W. Risinger Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76123. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m.
The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Bettye's legacy of faith, service, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
