Beverly Laverne Smith

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Beverly Smith, who left us on August 10, 2026 at the age of 82. She was a beloved mother, sister, friend and her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Born on July 1, 1944 in Fort Worth, Beverly was the child of Ira Cate and Sarah Lee Lucas Cate. Throughout her life, Beverly was known for her love of family, how proud she was of her daughter, and how much she loved her husband. She devoted her time and energy to caring for others, she loved to read, and to sew and crochet. Everyone who met her thought she was the sweetest person.

Beverly is survived with deep sorrow by her daughter Kathy Smith, her sister Janice Johnson, her brother Robert McKinney, 23 nieces and nephews, and many more family and friends.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband William Cecil Smith, and her siblings Eulas Ray Cate, Totsy Hasten Cate, James Curtis Cate, Frances Louise Cates Harris, Myrtle Lee Cates Cofer, George Fredrick Cates, Edward Paul Cate, Gary Lynn Cate, Johnny Daryl Cate.

The family invites relatives and friends to a celebration of Beverly's life on August 19th at 11 am with visitation from 10-11am and a reception at noon, to be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 7100 Crowley Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76134.

Her burial will take place the following day August 20th at 10am, to be held at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.

The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Beverly’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
