Bill was born Jan. 4, 1922, the fifth of six children born to Ione and Bruce McHarg. Bill was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth and a graduate of Paschal High School. After serving honorably in the Navy he attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering. His career centered on the marble and tile industry with his own company, McHarg Marble & Tile. In this capacity he did many installations in the Fort Worth and Dallas areas, in hotels, hospitals, office buildings and private homes. His signature project was the world renowned Kimbell Art Museum. He was very well respected in the industry once serving as president of the Marble Institute of America. He was also a dedicated member of Rotary completing over 50 years of perfect attendance. His favorite pastime was golf, in particular at Colonial Country Club, where he had several holes-in-one over the years. He also loved to go boating and fishing at Lake Whitney where he had a second home. He loved traveling, in particular cruising. His favorite country was Italy which he visited countless times, both for business and pleasure. He was a loving and caring father of two sons, Bill and Ronnie, whom he cared for so much in sickness and health and was so generous with. He spent the last 24 years of his life married to his "angel," Margaret, and she truly was an angel to him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Ione McHarg; his brothers, Marston and Bruce; his sisters, Louise, Betty and Margie; and his son, Ronnie McHarg.
Survivors: His wife, Margaret Withers McHarg of Fort Worth; his son, Bill B. McHarg Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; his stepchildren, Dennis Withers and wife, Jayne, and their son, Cory, of Fort Worth, and Judy Withers Berry and husband, Kenn, of Dallas; and many nieces and nephews.
