Bobbie Dean Dollar Matthews was born on February 10, 1929, in Hillsboro, Texas. She was the 3rd of three children born to Marcus M. and Jewel Rebecca Howard Dollar. She grew up in Hillsboro, Del Rio and Tyler, Texas, and always described her childhood as idyllic. She was double promoted in the 3rd grade due to advanced academic achievements. She was baptized at age 15 at the East Side Church of Christ in Hillsboro, TX, and she remained a faithful member of the Church of Christ all of her life. She served as an Elder’s wife, taught Bible Classes, spearheaded VBS, hosted many church gatherings, and furnished meals to those in need. Immediately following high school graduation, she was married to Bobby Wayne Matthews in Hillsboro Texas on June 16, 1946. They were devoted to each other for 56 years before he passed away in 2002.
In addition to being an excellent homemaker, Bobbie worked at Convair Aerospace (currently Lockheed Martin) and at a large Fort Worth Marketing and Advertising Firm where she enjoyed assisting pro-golfer Ben Hogan during the Colonial Country Club Golf Tournaments each year. She was very blessed to have a sweet family whom she dearly loved, and they loved her. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She kept toys and books on hand, and many memories were made as she played games and read to them for hours. She remembered everyone’s birthday and was very generous with gifts. In addition to doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bobbie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, oil painting, traveling, visiting with neighbors, and reading autobiographies.
Bobbie passed from this life on July 2, 2024, with her children by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby Wayne Matthews; her brother, Billy Marcus Dollar; and her sister, Mary Jean Dollar Triplett.
