Bobby Ray Atkins went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the age of 96. A devoted believer in Jesus Christ, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, Bobby lived a life led by faith, strength, and joy.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 8, 1928, Bobby was a lifelong, self-made man whose life was grounded in his unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.. On July 8, 1945, he married the love of his life, Allie Mae Atkins. Together, they shared 64 years of marriage and raised two children, Donald Ray Atkins (now deceased) and Sharon Elaine Gorman.
Bobby owned and operated several service fuel stations throughout his life, creating a livelihood that supported his family and left a lasting mark on those around him. He was stubborn in the best way, determined, resourceful, and never one to wait around for someone else to figure things out. If something needed doing, Bobby would get it done, and he’d do it his way.
Outside of work, Bobby had a passion for prospecting. His love for exploration took him across several states searching for treasures hidden beneath the earth. It wasn’t just a hobby, it was a way of life that brought him joy and adventure. He even captured his experiences in a book titled. “Adam’s Gold Trail”.
He had a deep love of music and played the guitar throughout his life in church, where he used his gift to worship the Lord. In his later years, he continued sharing that gift by visiting nursing homes, playing and singing to spread the gospel and bring comfort to others through song. And of course, they’ll remember his sense of humor. He never passed up the chance to tell a good joke, usually three times in a row, and he laughed harder at it himself every single time, bringing joy to everyone who would listen.
Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Allie Mae Atkins, and his son, Donald Ray Atkins.
His legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Elaine Gorman; grandchildren Tony Atkins, Todd Atkins, Jason Atkins, Leslie Gorman, Allie Gorman, and Melissa Gorman; great-grandchildren Robin Atkins, Jonathon Atkins, Sarah Gorman, Jamie Atkins, Joshua Atkins, Jevan Atkins; and one great-great-grandchild, Evelyn Atkins.
To his family, Bobby was a loving example of what it means to live a Christ-centered life. He taught us how to work hard, pray harder, love fully, and never give up. His faith, laughter, and legacy will live on in each of us.
We thank our Heavenly Father for allowing us the privilege of having him in our lives for so many meaningful years.
A graveside for Bobby will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth, 7100 CROWLEY RD, FORT WORTH, TX 76134.
