Burt is survived by his loving wife Marylou; by Lori, Rick and Sami Starkey and Noah Gilstrap of Springtown; brother Jim Bob and wife Janice of Santo, and Ginna McIntire Calhoun of Greensboro, N.C., as well as by many grandchildren and great grands, nieces, nephews, godchildren and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention here.
Burt was preceded in death by his son Richard Burton “Rick” Moore, a brother Ray Lee Moore, a sister Billie McIntire, parents Bill and Monnette Moore and other beloved family members on both sides.
Burt was born March 19, 1937 in Ft. Worth, Texas and was only three when his birth mother Frances Elizabeth Moore died of Leukemia. The only mom he remembers is Monnette, a wonderful mother who adopted him as hers. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1955, served in the U.S. Navy for ten years in Morocco, Iceland, Norfolk, VA, Jacksonville & Pensacola, FL and on many carriers including “shakedown” cruise of first nuclear ship Enterprise. He was a member of squadrons of Hurricane Hunters in Florida. and Air-Sea rescue units out of Keflavik as well as VAW-12 “Eyes of the fleet” in Norfolk. Upon leaving service he worked in Engineering as a Program Manager at Bell Textron and for General Dynamics (later Lockheed) retiring from each. He then became V.P. at Tritech Data Services Engineering on F-16 flight programs on contract to G.D.
He married Marylou Shock of Tiffin, OH in Mineral Wells, TX and enjoyed 3 months shy of 60 years together. Burt was well respected in all aspects of his life and liked by all who knew him. He was an avid pilot, hunter, fisherman and so-so golfer and enjoyed travel both with friends and in his R.V. He was a Master Mason, founding member of Westwind Church in Keller and long-time member at St. Luke United Methodist in Haltom City. He enjoyed charity work, meals-on-wheels deliveries, mentoring and life in general. He will surely be remembered as a loving, caring, helpful, joking, happy person. He especially loved making homemade wine for 50+ years.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday May 2 at 10am at St. Luke UMC, 3200 Denton Hwy in Haltom City. Rev. Todd Pick will be officiating and any who would like to comment in person or in writing on their friendship or work with Burt are encouraged to do so.
The family would like to express appreciation to supportive members of St. Luke’s, friends & neighbors and Texas Health, Texas Oncology, U.S. Renal Dialysis Center and most recently Homage Hospice for all the help and support the past 5 years. Anyone wishing to donate flowers may contact the church or give donations in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (his preference).
