Carabel Chankaya, aged 93, passed away Tuesday, September 26 at North Hills Hospital after a period of declining health.
Carabel grew up in the Midwest, the daughter of a Presbyterian minister. She dedicated her life to working to help others, graduating with a degree in Social Work. She worked for the Red Cross during World War II, followed by a career as a social worker for child adoptions and nursing home admissions. Married to Sevki Chankaya, she settled in Connecticut, where we were raised. During her retirement in New Mexico before moving to Texas, Carabel had volunteered for social work with the local American Indians. She had enjoyed travelling, was an advocate of wolf preservation, and was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.
A brief graveside service for Carabel will be held at 10AM on Saturday, October 6th, at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel at 7301 East Lancaster, Fort Worth.
Sincerely,
Philip and Kurt Chankaya
