Carolyn was raised by her parents and her older sister, Evelyn, who was born September 29, 1913. Like many families at that time, they were poor, making a living by sewing, selling eggs from chickens they raised, and renting out the other half of a duplex they owned in Morningside.
Mother graduated from Paschal High School (in the present day Green B. Trimble Technical High School) in 1948. She attended TCU and graduated with an art and teaching degree in 1953.
She taught 5th grade at W. J. Turner Elementary in 1953 and 1954 before marrying Robert A. (Bobby) Burns, Jr. on June 12, 1954. They were married for 51 years until Bobby’s death in January of 2006.
Carolyn and Bobby raised two children. Robert was born in 1955, and Ann was born in 1958.
To provide additional income for the family as the housing market declined, Carolyn again taught elementary school from 1966 to 1981, teaching 6th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd grades at South Hills Elementary, Dunbar Elementary, and Oaklawn Elementary.
Over the years, Carolyn also tended to the needs of her sister, aunt, mother, and mother-in-law until 1996. She was an excellent teacher, artist, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by her friends, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Evelyn Longhurst; and her husband, Robert A. (Bobby) Burns. She is survived by her son, Robert A. Burns III; her daughter, Ann Burns Moyer (and Ann’s husband, Rod); her grandchildren, Ashleigh Burns, Catherine Pittman (and Catherine’s husband, Justin), and Austin Moyer; her great grandchildren, Charlie Pittman and Jude Pittman; her nephew, Gerald Marcell (and his wife, Linda), and Gerald and Linda’s children, Wes (and wife, Charissa) and Greg.
