

Charles Edward Sumner was born on December 13, 1940 to his parents Maynard and Arda Sumner in Girard, Pennsylvania. Charles was the oldest of 5 siblings. After High School, despite his disdain for water, he joined and honorably served in the United States Navy. He served 20 years in the Navy, traveling all over the world, where he met his wife, Mona. They married in New Market, England on March 27, 1965. They were married for 56 years.
In 1978, Charles and family moved to Burleson, Texas. After retiring from the Navy, he worked briefly in the civilian world before returning to work for the Army Corps of Engineers until he retire in 2007. Charles enjoyed his family, went to all the children's and grandsons' soccer games. He was a faithful servant to the Methodist Church. Charles also enjoyed golf perhaps his pride and joy was golfing at Saint Andrews Scotland. Charles was active in the Burleson Lions club.
Charles is survived by his wife Mona Sumner of Burleson, son and daughter in law Stuart and Sheila Sumner of Fort Worth, daughter Selena Sumner of Fort Worth, and three grandchildren Jean Sumner, Paul Sumner and Patrick Sumner of Fort Worth, sister Virginia Sumner of Pennsylvania, and brother Lynn Sumner of Pennsylvania.
Charles was preceded in death by a son Phillip Sumner, sister Rebecca Sumner, and brother Raymond Sumner.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in honor of Charles to the First United Methodist Church in Burleson.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Burleson, Texas with a committal service to follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas.
