Christina Withers 1924-2018 Christina Harris Havins Withers, 94, longtime resident of Fort Worth, passed away on the morning of Friday the 30th of November. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She was born in 1925 to Hedda Bergman Harris and William Jennings Bryan Harris on August 1st, at the ranch of her grandfather outside the town of Scurry in Kaufman County, Texas. After she graduated from Scurry-Rosser High School, the family moved to Dallas, where she married Felton H. Havins on September 27, 1941. Their daughter, Kathryn Ann, and son, Felton Jr. were born St. Paul’s hospital. Christina worked as a fashion model at the first Neiman-Marcus store, and as the dining room manager at the Hotel Adolphus in downtown Dallas. She also served as USO Warrior in WWII. The family moved to Fort Worth, where she graduated with honors from Texas Wesleyan University with a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences, as well as a degree in education. During her time there she participated in many college functions and clubs, and was a member of Alpha Chi. For the next 25 years she taught biology, chemistry and physics at Carter Riverside, Polytechnic & Eastern Hills High Schools, as well as biology laboratory classes at Texas Wesleyan University, and was awarded teacher of the year. She married Dan Hardy Withers, an engineer and entrepreneur in 1973. They were happily married for 23 years. They were avid golfers and participated successfully in many tournaments at Woodhaven Country Club, where they were members. She is survived by her children, Kathryn (Kitty) Havins Campbell and Felton H. Havins, Jr., her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends. Services are scheduled at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery at 7301 E. Lancaster, Fort Worth, TX, on Wednesday, December 5, with a viewing at 1:30pm, chapel service at 2pm, and internment at 3pm.
