Clara Louise Ellis

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Clara Louise Ellis, who left us on Sept 9, 2026 at the age of 78. She fought a tough battle with Parkinson's for many years. She was a beloved mother and her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Born on April 11, 1948 in Columbus, GA, Clara was the second child of Elmer C O'Briant and Dorothy Jean Bennett. Clara was known for Ms. Clara's Playskool and her passion for gardening.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, David Leon Ellis Sr., her brothers James Edward O'Briant, Thomas Ray O'Briant, and Jerry Wayne O'Briant.

Clara leaves behind to cherish her memories her three daughters, Kay LaHood Jarrett, Sherry LaHood Gulley and Dodie LaHood Brown. Her sister, Trisha Owens, her grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as “Meme”, Kennedy and Tyler Jarrett, Caleb and Jacob Gulley, Taylor and Gabby Brown and her close friends, Judy Simmons and Linda Jones.

The memorial service is being held for immediate family members only. The family requests any memorials be addressed to their favorite charity or the Michael J Fox foundation.

The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Grandview Nursing Home, Wings Over Texas and Maypearl First Baptist Church. Clara’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
