Curtis James Miller passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2017. He was born in Winona, Texas to Freddie and Allie Miller. At an early age his family moved to Fort Worth, Texas where Curtis graduated from the historic I.M. Terrell High School.
While in junior and senior high school, Curtis excelled in football and track setting a Fort Worth Independent School record. He enjoyed singing and listening to music of all genres. This hobby became a life –long enjoyment which he shared with everyone.
Curtis served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, doing a tour in Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged and returned to his home in Fort Worth where he began dating Cora Smith, who in 1969 became his wife.
The couple joined Eastwood United Methodist Church (Which later merged with another church and renamed McMillan UMC) where Curtis faithfully sang as a member of the choir. His favorite song to sing was “If I can Help Somebody”. Curtis also participated in Church school, lay leadership, men’s choir and youth activities.
While being employed at Ben Hogan Company, Curtis enrolled in college and obtained a BA degree in elementary education from Texas Wesleyan College. Several years later, he began teaching in the Fort Worth Independent School District. He taught students at Mitchell Blvd, and A.M. Pate elementary schools. In 2007, Curtis along with his wife, Cora, retired from the school district.
When his health failed him, Curtis began an extensive rehabilitation program along with attending the Professional Adult Care Center where he regularly entertained other members with his jokes, singing and dancing. Curtis never met a stranger nor a person he could not uplift and make smile.
Proceeding him in death were his father, Freddie Miller; and sister, Evelyn Norris.
Curtis leaves fond and loving memories with his wife, Cora; daughter, Corie; grandchildren, Darien, Amari, and Samiyah; mother, Allie Miller; sister, Sevella Murray, and other cherished relatives and friends.
