Danny Lawrence Reed

Danny was born to Barney I. and Etta B. Reed in Floyd, Virginia, on December 3, 1940. In 1943, his family moved to Tennessee, where his father, a carpenter, took a job in support of the nation’s war effort. Danny’s mother was a devoted homemaker who cared for their six children.

Danny was baptized at the age of 12 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, beginning a lifelong walk of faith in Christ Jesus. After moving to Texas in 1967, Danny and Judy became members of the Trail Lake Church of Christ, later the Altamesa Church of Christ, where Danny served as a deacon. In 1984, they became members of The Hills Church. From 1994 to 2005, they lived in Virginia and were members of the Fairfax Church of Christ, and they returned to Texas and The Hills Church in 2006.

Danny’s faith in Christ was a defining part of his life. He sought to live that faith through his devotion to God, his love for others, and his service to the church. Danny demonstrated his faith by serving in countless ways, but most notably, he dedicated over ten years of faithful service to the Let’s Start Talking ministry, using conversation as a bridge to share Scripture and build lasting relationships. His faith gave him strength, purpose, and hope, and it remained central to the life he shared with his family.

Yet the greatest joy of Danny’s life was his family—especially his beloved wife, Judy, their children, and their grandchildren. Danny and Judy were married for 64 years, sharing a marriage marked by love, commitment, faith, and countless memories. Together they raised two children, Janet and Dan, and were blessed with six grandchildren: Reed, Mitchell, Cannon, Jalee, Jill, and Luke. Danny treasured his role as husband, father, and grandfather. His family was not simply an important part of his life; they were the source of his deepest joy. He delighted in loving them, encouraging them, and watching their lives unfold. He demonstrated that love by faithfully showing up for all of the big and small moments in their lives—school awards, Scouts, athletic events, graduations, and countless other milestones—always present, always supportive, and always proud.

Danny was also a dedicated and accomplished engineer whose career reflected his intelligence, discipline, and commitment to service of country. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and both a Master’s and Doctorate in Engineering Science from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was an avid supporter and proud fan of the University of Tennessee, a lifelong connection that reflected his dedication to the importance of learning and education. He began his professional career with Lockheed Martin Aerospace where he served for 27 years as Director of Manufacturing Development. After leaving Lockheed Martin, Danny spent 16 years with the Institute for Defense Analyses in Washington, D.C., working in support of the United States Department of Defense.

Danny was predeceased by his parents, Barney I. and Etta B. Reed, and by his four sisters and one brother: Arbie Kistner, Phyllis Wilson, Bonnie Thomas, Betty Mangrum, and Barney Isaac Reed, Jr.

He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his quiet strength, his intellect and dedication, and above all, for the love he gave so freely to Judy, Janet, Dan, and his six grandchildren. The greatest measure of Danny’s life is not found in his professional accomplishments, but in the people he loved and the faith he held dear.

Danny lived a life of purpose and love, grounded in his faith in Christ Jesus and enriched by a loving marriage and the immeasurable joy of being a father and grandfather. His family and friends will miss his presence deeply, but they give thanks for the life he lived, the love he shared, and the faith that sustained him.
