Memorial service: 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Wedgwood Baptist Church. His remains will be interred on his property in Longview.
Dave was born April 9, 1960, in Longview. He attended Deer Park High School and left to work on offshore oil rigs. It was in the oilfields that he discovered his calling, surveying. He loved the field work and had countless stories of "close encounters" while surveying. His true passion, however was NASCAR. One of his last conversations involved planning for a February trip. He wanted to rent a Winnebago, load it with friends and drive to Daytona, Fla., for the opening race of the 2015 NASCAR season. His most admired trait was his compassion. Time and again, he was there whenever anyone was in need.
Survivors: His mother, LuoCille Cavin of Fort Worth; brothers, Bob Cavin and wife, Brenda, of Roseville, Ohio, and Bruce Cavin and wife, Norma, of Fort Worth; cousins, Barbara Elliot, Luke Hill, Betty Hill, Susie Hill, Martha Hood and Carrie Amatangelo; and nephews and nieces, Bobby Frazier and wife, Elizabeth, Angela Zigmond and husband, John, Christina Draper and husband, Terry. He will also be missed by countless friends who loved him very much including Polly, Matt and Mark.
