He was born October 30th, 1959, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Sydney and Rose Barkman. His family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of 13, where he met his soulmate of almost 45 years, Genieve Cortez. They were married September 2, 1978. A successful career in the steel pole industry started in Louisiana and eventually led him to relocate in Texas. He had a passion for sports and cooking that was only exceeded by his deep love for family and dogs. A native to Michigan, he was a lifelong Wolverine fan and his Louisiana roots ran deep for his loyalty to the LSU Tigers. He loved nothing more than to cheer on his favorite teams or to spend time with his grandchildren.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Rose Barkman; and Father-in-law PJ Cortez.
He is survived by his wife, Genieve Barkman; daughters, Angie Haynie and husband, Jason and Brittney Brown and husband Roger; his grandchildren, Ava Summerhill, Abby Haynie, JD Haynie, and Alivia Haynie; mother-in-law, Lucy Cortez; step granddaughter, Elizabeth Brown; step great granddaughter, Kensley Brown; sister, Natalie Zimmerman and husband, Eric; as well as, many nieces and nephews.
