Burns was the Director of Public Works for the City of Bedford then later the Director for Johnson County. He was a great leader and always there for his employees. He loved and cared for all of them.

Don "Papa" Burns is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Judy Burns; sons, Don Burns and wife Becky, Chad Aaronson and wife Denise; daughter, Traci Isbell and Curt Carlton; his three grandsons, Zakk and Dustin Burns and Trae Isbell; brothers, Terry and Danny Burns; sister, Joyce Barrientos, and several other relatives. Burns is preceded in death by two sons, Brian and Clinton Burns; sister, Carol Watson, and his parents, Everett and Maxine Burns.

My husband, Burns as he was known to all who loved him, was the love of my life. He had a great sense of humor; was always there for everyone and had a huge heart. We always had a fun time together watching baseball and football. It was always "Go Cowboys!"

For his three grandsons, he is and was a wonderful role model which they could always turn to for help, advice and support. He was never too busy for the ones he loved.

Words cannot express how much he will be missed by everyone; he is and was the absolute sunshine in all our lives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
