OBITUARY
Don Carlos Carter
November 24, 1942 – November 13, 2012
Don Carlos Carter was born November 24, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Adelaide (Lickteig) Carter. He grew up in Cresco, Iowa, graduating from Notre Dame High School in 1960. He graduated from the Minnesota School of Business, Minneapolis, MN in 1962. Don worked as a court reporter in Cleveland, Ohio until August, 1963, at which time he moved to Sibley, Iowa, and worked as a court reporter for the State of Iowa until 2005. He continued court reporting part-time for two additional years. He served on numerous committees and held several offices in the Iowa Court Reporters' Association including president. In addition, he served as Executive Director of the Lawyers Chautauqua (Okoboji Iowa) from 1979 to 2010. Don drove a RIDES bus in Sibley and he also served as secretary/bookkeeper for St. Andrew's Church. He served as a staff sergeant in the Army Reserves from 1964 to 1970. He also was President of the Sibley Jr. Chamber of Commerce, and served as a member of the Osceola County, Iowa, Board of Adjustment.
On May 4, 1985, Don was united in marriage to Linda Beck. He enjoyed golf, caring for his yard, all sports especially the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all he enjoyed spoiling his three lovely granddaughters and twin grandsons who all lovingly knew him as 'Bumpa'. In 2010 Don and Linda moved to Haslet, TX, to be near their children and grandchildren.
Don was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Sibley, Iowa. He was a church director, served on the education committee, and was a lector for over 40 years. He became a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Keller, TX, in 2011.
Don fought a brave battle against pancreatic cancer. He passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the age of 69, at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Linda Carter; children Marne (Kirk) Loftin of Azle, TX, Christopher Beck of Watauga, TX and five grandchildren Madison and Kennedy Beck, and Rileigh, Ryder and Chase Loftin, all at home; sisters Elaine (James) Whittington of Flower Mound, TX, Jane (Gene) Knapp of Aurora, IL and brother Dean Carter of Hutchinson, KS; sister-in-law Karen Urness of Eden Prairie, MN and brothers-in-law Craig (Diane) Flood of Bode, IA, Stephen (Erin) Flood of Eden Prairie, MN and Robert (Eileen) Flood of Cedar Rapids, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Linda--Those that we love are never really gone. It is as if their spirit guides us in so much that we do. In fact, little things will jar your memory in the middle of something entirely different. Often, it makes you chuckle. It is comforting and reassuring.
Your family and friends are a good support system. In your heart, you will find the strength to help you through this sad time. Just remember---tears are healing. Call anytime. Lots of love.

Linda - I pray that God's love will comfort and keep you through this very sad time. I pray that the wonderful memories you and your family have together will soon occupy more of your heart than the sadness of your loss does. You are such a lovely lady and I know by just reading about Don's life that he was a wonderful man. A minister once said...instead of asking why He took them home so soon, we might ask what we did to deserve to have them in our lives as long as we did. Don's work on earth his done and God has called him home saying "Well done, My Child, well done." Peace and comfort to you my friend.
