Donald Wayne Williams, lovingly remembered by many, was born on March 30, 1951, in Marion, South Carolina, to the late Mozella Sanders Williams and Paul “Squirrel” Williams.
Donald was one of seventeen siblings and the ninth child in line. He grew up surrounded by family, community, and the kind of Southern roots that shape a person for life. He leaves behind four sisters and four brothers, along with extended family and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
Donald proudly served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1973. He later worked at Tarrant County College and was also an entrepreneur in videography, using his creativity to capture moments, people, and stories.
Donald also devoted a meaningful portion of his life to honoring history and uplifting cultural legacy. He worked to help build awareness of Juneteenth, supporting efforts long before it gained national attention. He was the first director of the first Juneteenth Museum, helping to lay the foundation for what would later become a broader movement of education, remembrance, and community pride. Donald strongly believed that history should not only be recognized, but respected and preserved.
Donald was the father of Donald Ja’Mal Williams, Sky Williams, and Summer Jaynae Williams, and he carried with him the love and memory of Paul Sneed, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Celeste Williams. Donald later shared his life with his devoted wife, Bernadette Sneed, who cared for him with love and support.
Donald’s life was filled with stories, strength, and an unforgettable presence. Though he is no longer with us in body, the impact of his life remains in the hearts of those who knew him. Today, we honor his journey, celebrate the memories he leaves behind, and give thanks for the time we were blessed to share with him.
