Dorothy F. BIRDOW
October 10, 1949 – March 25, 2021
Dorothy Birdow, age 71, a retired Administrative Assistant, surrendered to life here on Earth on March 25, 2021. Dorothy was born on October 10, 1949 in Palestine, Texas to her parents, Edd and Marguerite Carter. She met Oscar (O.J.) Birdow, and they shared 34 years of a loving marriage until his death on October 23, 2003. She was known to her family and friends as “D.D.” She was a member of First Samaria Baptist Church, where she was member of the Mission Society, Pastor’s Aid Committee, Women in Grace, and a Deaconess. Later in life she moved her membership to The Inspired Church under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Tucker. She was a dedicated member, active in the Women’s Ministry Department, and the Sunday School Department.
She retired from the City of Fort Worth as an Administrative Assistant after 38 years of service. She was known at the City of Fort Worth as “Dot.” She also worked several years as a florist designer for Winn Dixie Food Store, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and was a certified nursing assistant. She owned and operated her own business known as D.D.’s Flowers. She was a talented floral designer, organizer of showers, weddings, gift baskets, anniversary celebrations, and party get-togethers.
On Thursday, March 25, 2021, she completed her assignment and earned her heavenly flowers surrounded by loving family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving, generous person who continually gave of herself in caring, and sharing for those she loved. Her inner beauty was matched by her outward appearance. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edd and Marguerite Carter; brothers, George Carter and Willie Wilson; sisters, Bertha Brown and Betty Carter; one great granddaughter, Kali Thompson.
Loving survivors: Two sons, Cedric Taylor and Latwain Birdow; two granddaughters, Shanovia and Eniyah Birdow; two grandsons, Ryan Ellison and Carrington F. Thompson; one brother, Julius Owens; one sister, Linda Carter of San Diego, California; three great grandsons; one great granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
