Dorothy Martin Green was born Dorothy Faye Martin on August 21, 1927, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Willie and Edna Martin. She was the third of five children in her family. During the Great Depression, Dorothy's family relocated to Mount Pleasant, Texas, where she spent most of her childhood.
Family and Motherhood
Dorothy married Billie Crabtree, and together they had three sons: Charles, Larry, and Gary. After separating from Billie, Dorothy raised her three boys as a single mother in Fort Worth, Texas. She was deeply involved with the Southside Church of Christ, where she built lasting friendships and spiritual connections with many of its members.
A New Chapter
In 1971, Dorothy met Dr. Ernest Green, a fellow member of Southside Church of Christ. The two married on March 17, 1972, and enjoyed thirty-five years together until Ernest passed away in 2007. Together, Dorothy and Ernest devoted much of their time to volunteering at Southside, helping with the food pantry, bus service, and Sunday school. They were also longtime sponsors for children at Christ Haven Home for Children.
Later Years
In 2014, Dorothy moved to Houston, Texas, to live with her son Gary and his wife Deborah. Her oldest son, Charles, joined her in Houston in 2021 to assist with her care as her health declined. After a long struggle with declining health, Dorothy passed away and was called home to God in September 2025.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, her husband Ernest, her second son Larry, and Ernest’s son David. She is survived by her son Charles, her son Gary and his wife Deborah, and by Ernest’s daughter Gaye and her husband Melvin.
