He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on November 26, 1962, to Dorothy and Lloyd Scheffe. He graduated from Richland High School, later earned a degree with Cum Laude honors while also receiving a scholarship from Radio Shack.
Duane married Nancy L. Scheffe on April 25, 1998, in Tallahassee, Florida.
Duane built a career in construction and later owned and operated his business, The Home Doctor. His clients trusted him implicitly, often entrusting him with the keys to their homes. He took great pride in his work, and excellence was always his standard.
Duane inherited a love of nature from his mother and sister and had a remarkable green thumb. He enjoyed creating beautiful landscapes and often said he would never harm a bee because of the good they do. He loved the mountains, the beach, and building what friends called an "Oasis" filled with waterfalls, flowers, and lighted crosses for his wife to enjoy and remember their shared faith and journey in their backyard.
Duane also had a deep love for his fur babies. Together, he and Nancy adopted six cats because he could never bring himself to separate siblings. Spike was his little warrior, faithfully protecting him despite having only a few teeth. Duane had a unique sense of humor and a gift for making his family and friends laugh, especially when taking pictures and sharing special moments.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Nancy; and his sisters, Diane Mamrus, Lisa Couch, and Denise Scheffe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Lloyd Scheffe, his brothers, Michael Scheffe, Danny Scheffe, and Kenneth Scheffe.
