Dwight Wayne Turner, 68, of Fort Worth, TX, passed away on Sunday, September 18th, 2022. He passed away in Rockwall, TX after a long battle with various health conditions. He was able to visit with and be loved on by family and friends at the time of his transition.
Dwight Turner was born in Fort Worth, TX to his beautiful mother, Katie(Turner)Wallace. As a child, he loved to play sports with neighborhood kids. He grew up with siblings Delores Jean Turner, Horace Turner, Faye(Turner) Woolridge, and Maurice Wallace. Dwight was the 2nd youngest sibling. He was a mild mannered child that got along with everyone.
As a teen, he attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and graduated in 1972 from Polytechnic High School both located in Fort Worth, TX. He was a very smart student that received good grades. After graduation Dwight enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served from November 9, 1972 until being honorably discharged on May 31, 1974.
Dwight married Carolyn (O’Quinn) Phillips in 1975. Three sons were born from that union; Chadrick Benarde Turner, Derrell Dwight De’Un Turner, and Jerrell Dwight De’Mon Turner. Dwight’s love of sports, especially basketball, continued into adulthood. I’m told by friends in Henderson, TX, where he resided for many years, that he could run all day. Knowing Dwight, I’m certain his mouth ran equally as long. He had the gift of gab. Later in life he remarried Sharon King. One daughter was born from that union; Shawnte Denise(Turner)English.
He loved music. Some of his favorite artists were Parliament, Anita Baker, Bootsy Collins, Confunkshun, and Gino Vannelli . His children have fond memories of his singing, dancing, and being silly. Although he sounded terrible, it was always entertaining and a good time. Dwight’s personality was unmistakable to say the least. He has been described as charismatic, charming, outspoken, hilarious, and to put it lightly, no-nonsense. As he aged, everyone around Dwight loved him and always spoke of his smile and how good of a guy he was. He knew The Lord. Dwight boasted that his children were his greatest accomplishment.
He is preceded in death by his younger brother, Maurice Wallace. He leaves his loving mother, Katie Wallace, siblings Delores(Jean) Turner, Horace Turner, Faye Woolridge, sons Chadrick Turner(Eunica) of Killeen, TX, Derrell Turner(Tiffany) of Rockwall, TX, and Jerrell Turner(Roxanne) of San Marcos, TX, daughter Shawnte Denise English of Fort Walton Beach, FL, 10 beautiful grandchildren, loyal, life-long friend Ferriel Burns, and a host of other wonderful friends and family to cherish his memory.
