Erma Jean Thomas was the only child born to Ada and Neil Johnson on July 23, 1928 in Pile, Texas. After the family moved to Corsicana, Texas, Erma accepted the Lord and was baptized at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, where she served as a choir member. Erma graduated from Jackson High School in Corsicana, Texas and later attended business school and community college. Erma was also a certified reading teacher, which lead her later in life to become the first person to teach all seven grandchildren how to read.
Erma married Percy L. Thomas and remained married for 67 years before he passed in June, 2015. Erma was a dedicated, loyal and loving wife, mother and grandmother (great/great, great). Erma and Percy were blessed to visit and live in many different countries with their two daughters, Sheila and Regina. She showed love and supported her daughters in all their endeavors in life. Whenever life presented an obstacle, she would encourage you by saying, "something good is going to happen to you today."
Erma was creative and was an outstanding seamstress. She made all of her and her daughters' clothes and when she was blessed with granddaughters, she made all the Easter dresses and Christmas pajamas. Like her mother, she was also skilled in quilting. Erma Jean was a family member that everyone looked forward to seeing at the annual family reunion just see what outfit she had created for herself that year.
Erma Jean is proceeded in death by her husband Percy L. Thomas and daughter, Sheila L. Dunbar.
Erma is survived by her daughter, Regina Thomas, 7 grandchildren (Sean, Maurice, Carolyn, Dietra, Leia, Erin and Monica), 18 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren
My mother is a woman like no other, she gave me life, nurtured me, taught me, fought for me, held me until the end. There are not enough words to describe the impact you've had in our lives. Our family was blessed to call you Mother & Grandmother.
We Love You!
