Freda Nodene Lawrence passed away on January 4, 2025, in Granbury, Texas. She was born on October 22, 1927 in Quitman, Texas to Rufus and Lola Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Lawrence, brother Jessie Sutton, and stepson, Michael Threadgill. Nodene is survived by her son, Kevin Lawrence(Alice), grandchildren, Jordan (Meghan), Kaylee Herrick(Ryan), and Jaclyn Threadgill (Rob), along with three great-grandchildren, Zia, Emily and Logan.
Raised in east Texas, Nodene moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area where she was the first in her family to attend business college. After graduation, she joined Southwestern Bell (now known as AT&T) and retired after 25 years of abridged service.
In the singles Sunday school at Travis Avenue Baptist Church, Nodene met her husband, james (J.T.). After a brief courtship, they married in 1956 and began a wonderful life together in Fort Worth, Texas, where they later had their son, Kevin , in 1958.
Nodene had an angelic voice and enjoyed singing and performing with the church choir for more than 30 years. You could always catch her humming her favorite hymns while playing 'Chicken Foot' dominoes.
In 1991, Nodene and J.T. retired to their farm, 'The Briar patch' in Burleson, Texas, where they lived until he died in 2017. Nodene enjoyed gardening, bird watching, playing with her beloved pup Sassy, and preparing country meals for anyone who visited.
Mornings and evenings were spent watching glorious sunrises and sunsets together.
'Memaw', as she was known to many, always loved her lord and family, and passionately believed in eating dessert first- "Life is too short!" she'd always say. Every once in a while, you could even find her screaming at the Cowboys football games.
