She was born in the Dominican Republic and was a loving single-mother of four who raised her four children alone, working as a seamstress, with no help from the government; only from the Lord. She loved to read her Bible, pray, watch nature shows, and all types of sports, especially baseball.
Education was really important to her; she was very proud to see all four of her children graduate from college, and see some of them go into higher education. She was also able to celebrate that seven of her grandchildren already graduated from college as well.
She was able to love, guide, and enrich the life of five generations of women, including her own mother, who died a few weeks after turning 100 years old. She left a legacy of love, dedication, admiration, and the desire to learn, which has been passed on to her family, especially to her granddaughters.
“Abuelita taught me how to put family first through sacrifice. She always proved what she thought was best for her family by her actions. Her children always had priority- this is the legacy she gave to my mother and which she has given to me. She would do anything for our benefit,” said Cristina her oldest granddaughter.
“Fulgencia "Nani" Corporán was more than just the matriarch of her family. She was a central figure in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Despite her large family, Nani made time for everyone as a confidant and a best friend. She never missed a birthday or an anniversary, and she had a special way of making everyone feel her love unconditionally,” added Crystal her second granddaughter.
Carolina, her “habichuelita” and youngest granddaughter remembers her this way: “I genuinely believe she knew me better than I know myself most days. She helped raise me, lived with me for most of my life, showed me to never give up on my dreams, fight for what I want, and to never settle. Her attitude and personality were unmatched and she never failed to make me feel better just by being around her.”
Fulgencia is survived by her four children Andrés, Altagracia, Clara, and Paula; four granddaughters, seven grandsons, and their spouses, three great-granddaughters, five great-grandsons, and three sons-in-law.
