She was born February 6, 1944 in Norfolk, VA. The first daughter of Rex and Lois Avery. She grew up mostly in Fort Worth. She loved her church, golfing, and all things puzzle. She was also a great archer – won 3 state championships- and bowler in her younger years. She enjoyed softball, dancing and taking pictures. She was most proud of being a mom and grandmother.
Gay met and married Roger Troutman and they had 1 daughter in 1966, Camela Gay Troutman.
She spent most of her life working hard. She worked at a steel plant, but spent most of her career working at Surgikos, where they made surgical gloves. Eventually the plant moved to Mexico and she was forced into retirement. Soon after she began working for her church and serving her condo community by walking dogs, cleaning, and loving people well.
Gay took great care of her mother after her father passed at age 69. Her mother, known as Mee Maw, attended church with her until her passing at age 85 in 2007.
Gay was very blessed to have played 18 holes of golf, had dinner, went to bed and woke up in the arms of Jesus. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister and beloved friend to so many.
She is survived by her daughter, Camela Lathrop, husband Rich; granddaughter, Lydia Avery; sisters, Jean Rawlings and her two adult children, Jerri Ellis, husband, Mike and their 3 children.
