A proud native Austinite, Pat attended Austin Independent School District schools, including Stephen F. Austin High School. She spent many cherished weekends on the north shore of Lake Travis at her grandfather's home, creating memories that she carried with her throughout her life.
Pat dedicated her professional life to public service as a civil servant for the United States Government, culminating in many faithful years with the Internal Revenue Service. She approached her work with diligence, integrity, and a deep respect for serving others.
In her personal life, Pat found joy golfing in tournaments of the highest caliber and bowling with her husband and friends. After retirement, she and her husband settled in Aledo, Texas, where she took great pride in her home and yard. Pat had a gift for cultivating beauty - her plants flourished under her care, and her home was always immaculate and welcoming. She was also a remarkable cook and a true Southern chef at heart. Among her many specialties, her homemade biscuits were legendary, always made with love and often using the leftover grease from the delicious meals she had prepared before.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Leading and participating in Bible studies was not just an activity, but a lifelong mission. She found deep purpose in sharing God's word, encouraging others, and walking faithfully alongside friends in their spiritual journeys.
Pat maintained lifelong friendships in Austin with a wide circle of friends, including business leaders, police officers, and fellow public servants. She valued loyalty, character, and community, and those relationships remained meaningful to her throughout her life.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Margarite Lloyd; and sister, Kandy Welch. She is survived by her devoted husband, Lee Ferrell; her sons, Glenn Smith and Greg Smith; Neice, Deedra Moates; Brother-in-law, Gary Welch; and her beloved grandson, Colby Smith, whom she absolutely adored and often described as the perfect gift from God. Her love for Colby was boundless, and he brought her immeasurable pride and joy.
Gayle "Pat" Smith will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant's heart, her immaculate home, her flourishing garden, her incredible cooking, and the deep love she poured into her family and friends. Her legacy of faith, service, and devotion will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
