Steve was born on March 9, 1947, in Gorman, Texas, and grew up in De Leon, where he graduated from De Leon High School and proudly played football for the Bearcats. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
On June 4, 1971, he married the love of his life, Estelle Ellis, at the First United Methodist Church in De Leon—the same church where his parents were wed. Their love story began swiftly and lasted a lifetime. He asked her to marry him just three months after they met; she told him if he was still by her side a year later, she would say yes—and he was, for over 55 more years.
Steve began his career as a CPA with Joe Howard Lumber in Fort Worth, where he worked through the 1970s and 80s. He later took charge of the Money Room at Trinity Meadows Racetrack and continued in that role when Lonestar Park in Grand Prairie opened in 1997, remaining there until his retirement.
A man of deep faith, Steve was a longtime member of the Church of Christ, worshiping at Alta Mesa in Fort Worth, South Main in Weatherford, and most recently at Aledo Church of Christ, where he built strong bonds and community totaling over more than 40 years.
Known for his craftsmanship, he even built his own workshop—just one of many testaments to his resourcefulness and love of working with his hands. He grew up on a farm listening to old country music, milking cows, bailing hay and tending to hogs and chickens. Yet, it was playing catch in the yard with his son that he considered his most precious work.
Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife Estelle, just 53 days before him—one day for each year they were married—as well as by his parents, George and Euna Terrill.
He is survived by his son, Michael Terrill, and his cherished granddaughter, Chloe, both of McKinney. Chloe was the light and laughter of his world. He is also survived by his brother Mark Terrill and wife Debbie of Roanoke, along with extended family and many dear friends.
A visitation will be held at Laurel Land in Fort Worth off Crowley Road at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
