Glenda Benita Taylor of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 29, 1953, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to Scottie Mae Taylor and John Taylor. Glenda developed a lifelong passion for learning and a heartfelt calling to serve others. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1971, and she went on to earn her degree in Education from Central Michigan University. She then began a distinguished 30-year career in public education, serving students in both Michigan and Texas. Throughout her career, she was known for her unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping young people succeed. She retired as a high school counselor in 2012, leaving behind a lasting legacy of encouragement, wisdom, and service.
Glenda was known for her impeccable attention to detail, sharp wit, and high expectations for every student she taught and counseled. She believed deeply in the transformative power of education and was a beloved teacher, counselor, mentor, and role model whose influence touched thousands of young lives.
Outside of her career, Glenda embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She had a passion for singing in her church choir, traveling, baking, and was a devoted football and basketball fan who rarely missed cheering on her favorite teams. She was an avid reader who enjoyed immersing herself in all types of reading material and was always eager to learn something new.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Glenda was baptized at a very young age at Second Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, Michigan and faithfully attended Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, where she joyfully sang in the church choir. She was also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for 54 years, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.
Glenda leaves to cherish her memory twin sister, Linda Taylor of Mansfield, Texas; sister, Claudette Scott of Fort Worth, Texas; brothers, Lendward Taylor and John Taylor of Benton Harbor, Michigan; several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends; and her two cherished godsons, Nick Seawood of Burleson, Texas, and Nathan Seawood of DeSoto, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Scottie Mae Taylor and John Taylor, and her beloved sister-in-laws Lorraine B. Taylor and Alice F. Taylor.
Her life was a testament to faith, service, education, and love. Whether she was shaping young minds in the classroom, offering guidance as a counselor, lifting her voice in praise, or sharing laughter with family and friends. Glenda lived with purpose, compassion, and grace. Her beautiful smile, loving spirit, words of encouragement, and enduring legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and those whose lives she so profoundly touched.
