

Glynn Lummus Mathis of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on November 8, 2025, at the age of 85. He was born to Robert Butler Mathis and Josie Lummus Mathis in Lake Village, Arkansas, on February 10, 1940. On August 11, 1962, he married Lana Loutricia (Warford) Mathis in Fort Worth, Texas.
Glynn, an Army brat and son of a military chaplain, lived in 13 places, the territory of Hawaii, and Kassel, Germany, before graduating from Killeen High School. Upon graduating from Hardin-Simmons University in 1963, he served as a commissioned Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps in Fort Benning, Georgia; Mannheim, Germany; and Heidelberg, Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army as a Captain, he taught 5thand 6th grades in Texas and for the Department of Defense in Mannheim, Germany. His more than 35-year career in education also included serving as a teacher, counselor, and administrator for Park College, Dallas Baptist University, Texas Christian University and Texas Wesleyan University.
His interests and areas of service included his roles as a husband; father; grandfather; brother; uncle; Scoutmaster for Troops 46 (Fort Worth) and 527 (Mannheim, Germany) and trombone player for Killeen High School, “The World Famous” Cowboy Band at Hardin- Simmons University, church orchestras, TCU Horned Frog Women’s Basketball Band, and the Fort Worth City Band—where he was honored as president emeritus and served in the band for nearly 45 years. He was ordained as a Deacon at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Mannheim, Germany, and, for more than 30 years, a member and Sunday School teacher at University Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Lana, of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Brian Mathis; son, Keith Mathis, of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Holly Kiser, and her husband, Jim Kiser, of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Cheryl Mathis, of Dallas, Texas; Brian’s son, Clayton, of Fort Worth, Texas, and daughter, Rachel, of Brunswick, Georgia; brother, Truett Mathis, and Truett’s wife, Amy, of Liberty, Missouri; sister-in law, Carole Mathis, of Plano, Texas (widow of Glynn’s brother, Neil); nephew, Robert Mathis; niece, Beth Markley; niece, Katherine Smith; nephew, James Mathis; niece, Carole Thomason; and several cousins and great nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends.
