With great sadness, we announce the passing of Harry Leonard Martin, who died on October 3, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on January 13, 1951, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, Harry was the son of Jean Myrtle (Knox) Martin and Donald Alfred (Danny) Martin. He will be remembered with love by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Harry is survived by his son, Joe Martin, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Grella; his sister, Suzy Martin; and his brother, Don Martin, and sister-in-law, Norma Jean Martin, along with their daughter, Michelle Martin-Pozo, and her husband, Julio Pozo. He is also fondly remembered by his former wife, Jan Massey Martin, and her husband, Tye Horn.
Harry had an enduring curiosity about the world around him and a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of nature. Gifted with a green thumb, he had a lifelong passion for plants and took particular pleasure in the art of cultivating and training bonsai trees. He loved animals and shared his life with many cherished pets. An avid photographer, Harry had an eye for finding beauty in both the ordinary and the extraordinary. His fascination with the natural world extended to science and the mysteries of the universe. He earned a degree in biology and pursued a career as a microbiologist in quality control. A devoted science fiction enthusiast, he was captivated by space, the cosmos, and the possibilities of worlds beyond our own. He also held a special affection for New Mexico, finding beauty and inspiration in its expansive desert landscapes, rugged mountains, and vast open skies. Above all, Harry was a loving and devoted father to his son, Joe, with whom he shared a passion for biology and the natural world. His life was marked by curiosity, wonder, compassion, and generosity, and by an enduring appreciation for the world and all its living things. Harry leaves behind a lifetime of memories, and his spirit of curiosity and wonder will live on in those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and reflect on a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Harry's memory to plant a tree in his name (alivingtribute.org) or make a memorial donation to the American Heart Association in support of heart disease and stroke research (heart.org).
