

Harvey lived a full life. He grew up working on the farm and left home at the age of 14. He began working in the steel industry until being drafted to the Army in March 1953 where he served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on February 28th, 1961. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, as well as a rifle for his outstanding marksmanship and sharp shooting skills.
After his return from Korea, he resumed working in the steel industry, where he worked for 50 years before retiring.
Harvey married Floella Kirkland June 1956 and made Burleson his home. They raised two children together – Martin and Marcia.
Harvey had many pursuits throughout his life. Second to his children, his pride and joy was his home and yard as he was awarded Yard of the Month many times in the city of Burleson. Harvey was an avid golfer with six holes in one – the last one in his eighties. He served on the City Council of Burleson. He played in bowling leagues and, in his early years, gave bull riding a try. In his later years, he loved going to Whataburger every morning at 6 am to meet with long-time friends and coffee buddies. Burleson Whataburger had a sausage biscuit “The Harvey”.
Harvey had many friends and was always ready to pitch in to help anyone in need. Harvey never met a stranger and was well-liked be everyone. He gave immensely to his family, siblings and friends. He taught his children many lessons, a good work ethic, and to be responsible and independent. He was the Dad that was always there and then some – always with patience and calmness.
He absolutely adored his grandchildren and daughter-in-law. He had a wicked sense of humor and always made you think. He loved to joke and stir the pot a little, with a little bit of stubbornness!
He is preceded in death by his parents Matthew & Gertrude Kinkade, sisters Peggy Elnora Garrett, Anne Ryder and Gaynell Toney, brothers A.L., Leon, Kenneth, Charles and Jerry Kinkade.
Harvey is survived by his son Martin and wife Michelle of Austin; daughter Marcia Pierce of Ft. Worth; grandchildren Rene, Joseph, David, and Audrey; long-time friend and caregiver, Tamara (Tammy) Early of Burleson; numerous nieces, nephews and countless special friends he considered family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held May 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
