

Harvey Gene Oppermann, 73, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Visitation for Harvey will be held Monday, July 25, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:30. It will be followed by a funeral service from 11:00AM to 12:00PM Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas.
Harvey was born in Carthage,Texas and the son of Curtis Louis Oppermann Sr., a bridge-construction worker, and Martha Selzer Oppermann, a homemaker. He graduated from Paschal High School in 1967. Harvey earned both a Bachelor of Science (1971) and a Master of Science (1975) in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. He began a long career in highway design and construction with the Texas Department of Transportation in 1967. After 32 and 1/2 years, he retired in 1999, and subsequently worked with a number of different engineering firms in Baltimore, MD, Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas, and D/FW Airport. Throughout his long career, he helped guide the design and the construction of parking garages, highways, bridges, and rail. The rail jobs included Commuter Rail outside of Baltimore and the Trinity Rail Express, TexRail and numerous DART projects in Dallas and Fort Worth. He drafted the first designs of what would eventually become the Chisholm Trail Parkway in Southwest Tarrant and Johnson counties.
Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Martha Oppermann; his brothers, Curtis and Gary Oppermann; and his sister, Dianna Hegeduis.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lucille Oppermann; his stepson, Stephen Brown; sisters-in-law Aleta Oppermann Kemble and Joyce Oppermann; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Harvey’s memory to Cook Children’s Medical Center, the Tarrant Area Food Bank, or to a charity of choice.
