Born in Germany, she moved to the United States when she married her husband, Thomas, in 1961.
Helene, known as Oma to her beloved grandchildren, enriched the lives of not only her family but everyone she encountered. She often told of her harrowing experiences of being a six-year-old refugee during WWII. Her stories still give us an amazing perspective from a time and era in the not so distant past.
Helene absolutely loved gardening and she and Tom were enthusiastic members of the Ft. Worth Iris Society.
Helene also loved Jesus and she and Tom faithfully worshiped him at Christ Lutheran church where they were active members. Her hobby was flower arranging and she regularly made the flower arrangements for the Sunday Services at Christ Lutheran. She also volunteered many years there, serving lunch to seniors at Barnabas House, a ministry of the church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Thomas Welches along with two daughters, Sylvia Fox of Fort Worth and Lydia Richey of Valencia, CA as well as their husbands Robert and John. She is also survived by her five grandchildren who will cherish her memory and pass along her stories to the next generation: Kristen Fox of Denton, Stephen Fox of San Francisco, CA, Erika Fox of Addison, TX, Patrick Fox of Ft. Worth, TX and Alexander Richey of Valencia, CA. and her beloved sister Irene Jahn of Chicago, IL.
