Henry Bradford Black, a native of Canyon, Texas was born January 2, 1924 to Will C. and Mary Bradford Black. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1941 and subsequently volunteered in 1942 for service with the US Navy and in 1944 was graduated from the US Naval Midshipman School, Plattsburg, N.Y. He was then assigned to sea duty as a naval line officer, and saw service in the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II.
After being released to inactive duty, Brad returned to complete his education and received a BS degree from West Texas State College, a DDS degree from Baylor University College of Dentistry, and a post graduate MSD degree from Northwestern University College of Dentistry. While completing his two years of hospital training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the University of Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital, he met and married Inge Koester.
In September 1953, Brad opened his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice in Beaumont, TX and maintained offices there until his retirement in 1989. He was very active in the dental profession, serving terms as president of the Sabine District Dental Society. The Texas Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and also the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He was a founding member of the Texas Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and also served 6 years as a Beaumont delegate to the Greater East Texas Health Service Agency.
Brad was a member of the Spindletop Rotary Club of West Beaumont from 1956 to 2000 and served as club president in 1990. He was also a level 3 Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.
Brad was an active member of the congregation of the First Christian Church of Beaumont, serving as an elder and in many of the church offices, including two terms as chairman of the board. In 2008 he was recognized as Elder Emeritus.
Brad is survived by his wife of 66 years, his two children, Dr. William B. Black of Temple, TX and Pamela Gail Miller and her husband, Travis Miller of Fort Worth, TX. Also his grandson, William B. Black II of Temple, TX.
