Hikmet was born on May 5, 1927 in Istanbul, Turkey. She married Gino Gregoretti and moved to Italy. They had 4 beautiful children together. Gino succumbed to cancer at a young age, leaving Hikmet a widow at age 33. A few years later, a couple of friends introduced her to a United States Air Force airman Donald Berenotto. It was love at first sight for him but her priorities were her 4 children. She only accepted his marriage proposal, once she was positive that he would love and take care of her children as he did her. They married on September 19, 1964. A year after they married, they were blessed with a child. Later, the family of 7 moved here to the United States.
Donald was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. They were stationed a few other places before retiring in Fort Worth, Texas. During Hikmet's time in Fort Worth, she would babysit children to help contribute to the family income. She spoke 5 languages and often translated for the DFW airport and Fort Worth Police Department. She also volunteered her time at the hospital. She was the seamstress for the family and her friends. If you needed something sewed or hemmed up, you took it to Hikmet. She also was an amazing cook. Hikmet was a loving Christian. She enjoyed being around her big family most of all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Gino Gregoretti, second husband Donald Berenotto and son, Bernie Berenotto.
