

She was born in Houston, TX to Sylvan Monroe (Sam) and Lola Freeda Vowell Griffin. Lanell grew up in Waco, TX, attended Waco High School, and later attended Abilene Christian University. She was a real estate broker in her career, an avid gardener, and prolific painter of portraits and still-lifes.
Lanell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, Ray Pullin Penrod, her son Jackson Lee Penrod, and step-daughter Joy Munoz.
She is survived by daughters Kelly Penrod (Michael Winters), Jessie Johnson (David), and Sara Sanders (John), daughter-in-law, Julie Penrod, step-daughters Gelinda Clark (David), and Suzanne Phillips (Jack), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A family service will be held in Gonzales, TX at a later date.
