The Walker household was alive and frantic on Wednesday, September 20, 1926 in Haskell, Oklahoma. Her parents Jack and Willie Autry Walker, along with their eleven children were waiting on the arrival of their baby girl. Upon arrival into the world, they named her Ida Bell Walker. The family lived on a farm, where all the children were required to work, go to school and church.
Ida’s loved reading and singing. Her first schooling was at home as she began to learn from the older children books. She began her formal education at the age of five at the only colored school in Haskell. She continued school and graduated on Friday, May 11, 1945 from Booker T. Washington Senior High School. Ida worked as a housekeeper for several families. No matter what problems came up, she faced it head on. Ida kept the strong work ethic and faith in God, she learned growing up at home throughout her lifetime. These she taught to her children and grandchildren.
Several years later, Ida moved to Fort Worth, Texas and settled in the Lake Como area. She joined Pleasant Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church (Rev. Lenley). Upon moving to the east side of the city, she attended Greater Eleazar Baptist Church (Rev. Jackson Moore, her brother). She joined Ebenezer Baptist Church (Rev. M.S. Houston). Ida would late unite with the Beth Eden Missionary Baptist Church (Dr. B.R. Daniels). Ida remained a faithful member until God called her home.
After ninety-four years, God knew her earthly house was tired and beginning to give out. So, on Tuesday, December 2, 2020, He dispatched one of his angels to bring her home. She has now joined her husband, son, grandson, mother, father, brothers, sisters and friends in God’s Heavens.
Those left to cherish her memory: children Louis Fields (Cheryl), Jackson Fields, Joyce Hattin, Helen Moore (James), Thomas Rackstraw, Robert Rackstraw (Kim); fifteen grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, sisters Pauline Brooks and Ina Jean Campbell, other family and friends.
