The Life Story of Ina Jean Campbell
Ina, affectionately known as “Granny,” was called home to be with the Lord on June 23rd. We love and miss her dearly, but we also know that God loved her best and that she is now in the presence of the Lord.
On September 21, 1932, in the rural town of Haskell, Oklahoma on the Loomis Salome Farm, Ina was born to the parentage of Jack Walker and Willie Autry Walker, being the youngest of sixteen children. She attended Du Boise Grade School then Booker T. Washington High School both in Haskell, OK, and graduated with honors as the Valedictorian of her class in 1950. In high school Ina’s aspiration for the future was, “to become a librarian in Chicago, and to be the head of the largest library in the world.”
Ina loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her Personal Lord and Savior at an early age. And throughout her life she expressed her commitment to serve God and His people through various acts of hospitality and servitude.
After graduating high school Ina along with her sister Pauline moved to Ft. Worth to live with their brother, the Reverend Jackson Moore and his wife Mary. Shortly thereafter, in 1950, Ina united with Pleasant Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church (PMG), under the pastorate of Rev. J. L. Lenley. After Rev. Lenley’s pastorate ended with his death in January of 1965, Ina remained a faithful member under the pastorship of Rev. R. L. Sanders, Rev. Larry J. Mouton, Jr., and currently Pastor Kevin L. Pullam.
Ina actively served in several ministries and auxiliaries including the Choir which she was a member for 65 years, also as an Assistant Teacher to Rev. Sanders for the Berean Bible Study class for 37 years, up until the end of Rev. Sanders pastorship in 2011. After which Ina continued teaching Bible study to Resurrection III until her failing health. Ina also taught Sunday school for over 39 years, including teaching the residents at Weber Nursing Home through Mission 2.
Ina was actively involved in Baptist Training Union, Vacation Bible School, the Women’s Ministry, and she coordinated the preparation of food for church events, and funerals. In her quest for knowledge of the Word of God, Ina spent time daily reading and studying God’s Word and searching through Bible commentaries. One of her most treasured achievements was when she read through the entire Bible for a total of 33 consecutive years! Ina was blessed to travel to the Holy Land in Jerusalem twice and to also travel in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul in Greece and Turkey.
Ina was married to Izer Campbell, who went home to be with the Lord on January 5th, 2010. This couple was blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in May of 2008.
Izer and Ina raised eight wonderful children, six boys and two girls. The thing that set Ina apart is her enduring love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. And her desire for each of them was that they become Believers in Christ, live godly lives, love one another, use godly wisdom, serve God and His people.
Ina was a stay-at-home Mom, but she worked harder at home than most people who work full-time jobs. She used her God given gift as a seamstress to provide clothes for her family, extended family, friends, and acquaintances. She was also an extraordinary cook who was blessed with the gift of hospitality, so she always opened her home to family, friends, neighbors in the community and to members of PMG.
In support of her community, Ina was actively involved in delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels organization for over 16 years.
Ina is preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and seven sisters, her husband Izer Campbell, and her son Michael James.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Calvin Walker, Jeffery James (Judy), Cindy Williams (Autry), David Campbell (Sheila), Timothy Campbell (Sheene), Patrick Campbell (Robin), Wanda Jones (James). Her daughters-in-law, LaRue Washington and Sharon James. Her sister-in-law, Charlestie Mae Jackson.
