Theda was born January 26, 1924. Theda was blessed with a family who loved God and served Him for generations. As a child she became aware that she was born with a natural tendency to sin-- rebellion against God. She understood that refusal to obey God would be punished by death and separation from almighty God forever. She learned that God’s Son Jesus lived a sinless life then chose to die in her place to pay the penalty for sin. That made it possible for her have the sinless nature of Jesus. She trusted Jesus to be the Boss of her life, and reflected His love all the days of her life. Those who met her were blessed by the way she demonstrated God’s love for them.
She married John McManus June 20, 1942 and together they served in many small rural churches in southeast Missouri. As the “preacher’s wife”, she was Bible teacher, pianist, the one who cleaned the church, planned fellowships, the hostess to those who came to the pastor’s home, and those things that no one else was available to do.
In 1957 the McManus family moved to Fort Worth Texas where John attended seminary. Theda began her 35 year career with General Service Administration to supplement the Pastor’s meager salary. She continued to serve in church activities & developed her gifts of compassion and encouragement that became her character.
The love of her life passed away in December 1983. She was also preceded in death by parents, Homer & Euga Graham; brothers, Paul (as child) & Arnold. Theda continued to serve her Lord faithfully in a multitude of new ways. She trusted God for guidance and marveled at how He always provided what she needed. Those who interacted with her were blessed by her smile and real interest in them.
She is survived by daughter, Marilyn Sue Shelton and her son in law, Carl Shelton; two grandchildren, Len Shelton and his wife, Lisa; John Shelton and his wife, Nicole; five great grandchildren, Cody Shelton, Jordan Shelton, Keira Shelton, Graisen Holt, and Noah Carter; and great, great granddaughter, Cora Story.
Her loving family will miss her in so many ways, but their comfort comes from the knowledge that she is welcomed by Jesus and surrounded by the family she has missed for so long.
