Jack Daniel Duren, age 90, passed from this Earth on Monday, July 20th, 2015. He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on August 28, 1924 to John B. Duren and Annie (Hodge) Duren. He attended school in Trinidad, excelling in school so much he completed twelve years of education in only ten and was at the top of his class. He was accepted to a scholarship to any college or university in Colorado, and chose his alma-mater, Colorado School of Mines, as a petroleum engineering major.
World War II intervened during his college days, and he was called into the Army, and assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers, and moved up to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Heavy Equipment Maintenance and Construction unit stationed to the Pacific theatre of the war, where he oversaw the construction of many runways needed for the air support for the war.
After the war ended, Jack returned to finish his education, and after graduation, was employed by Shell Oil Company, where he spent his entire professional career. He was transferred to many offices and locations during his early days, but one assignment led him to Great Bend, Kansas, where he met his one true love, Francis (Toni) Buchannan, and they were married and lived together in happiness for 56 years until her death in 2006.
In 1956, Jack and Toni welcomed their only child, an adopted daughter, into their life, and they were complete in their vision of their family.
Jack was always passionate about science, and engineering, and was one of the founding members of SPWLA (Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts), and served as its president in 1971, the year that he proudly saw the organization expand into the international world.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Wells, of Arlington, grandson Tony Wells and wife April, of Tulsa, OK, granddaughter Telisa Richardson and husband Michael, of Boise, ID and great-grandsons Devon Wells and Hunter Flowers.
